In 2018, the C buildings from the Alfinetes neighbourhood where subject to improvement works, by Gebalis. The construction work opened up the opportunity to mobilize the residents and develop a participatory project of public space requalification in the adjacent areas.
To do this, Rés do Chão partnered with Gebalis and Marvila’s Library to develop the first part of this participatory requalification process. Through public assemblies and work sessions with residents, since June 2018, proposals for new uses and designs of public spaces are being made. In September, the materialization of some of these proposals started with an urban art intervention and public games painted on the pavement – always involving the residents in the process. The inauguration of this first phase of the project was a public party co-organized with the residents, promoting social life and entertainment between more than 200 attendants.
This effort mobilized a new group of residents that became part of the community group as active members and key actors in the development of new stages of this project.
