Misericórdia Civil Parish’s analysis had, as main goal, the design of an online platform that matched potential tenants and owners of local vacant ground floor spaces, and a shared database about types of commerce and services available in the area.
According to the Union of Commerce and Services Association, in 2012, thirteen services a day closed doors in the Lisbon area. Misericórdia’s streets were a paradigmatic example of this situation.
In selected area under analysis, some streets showed a rate of vacant ground floors around 45%. This work contemplated the mapping of vacant and non-residential ground floors, the identification of the owners of those places, as well as the gathering of information about uses and schedules of active commercial spaces.
